I was enrolled for a woman leadership course while I was studying. Part of our course included an outing to the South African Parliament in Cape Town. I really enjoyed the outing. Apart from the beautiful architecture of the building itself, we had the opportunity to meet a member of Parliament (MP) and pick her brain. She spoke to us about the life of a member of parliament and we got to ask her a few questions afterwards. What stood out for me was how much they sacrifice of their personal lives. We tend to forget that they have families at home and they spend a lot of time traveling between home and Cape Town. This particular lady told us how she missed her sons matric farewell because her schedule just didn’t allow for her to be there. All and all a very insightful outing.
