Bona Bona Game Reserve (North West)

We visited Bona Bona Lodge in the North West for a wedding, situated about 50km south west of Klerksdorp, towards Wolmeransstad. We flew to Lanseria on the Wednesday afternoon and took a rental car to the lodge. It was only my second time in North West. They have all the facilities that you would expect from a 4-star game lodge. There is a chapel for weddings, a spa, a wedding venue, a restaurant and bar area overlooking a waterhole. We also went on a game drive which ends at their predator area where they have lions, tigers, leopard, wild dogs and hyenas. They also have various accommodation options from chalets to camping, catering for all price categories.

We stayed in the Rest Camp, which has camping facilities as well as some chalets with a lapa/braai area. Me and my boyfriend went for a afternoon stroll around the rest camp (staying inside the camp) and found some eland as well as giraffes in the camp itself. We were literally 100m from the giraffe. So we sat down and just enjoyed the moment in nature where we got to stare at the huge animal from so close. And then a second giraffe appeared just on the other side of the fence! Pure bliss. I didn’t join the other ladies for the spa outing the Friday morning, but they came back looking all relaxed and pampered. We enjoyed lunch on the restaurant deck on the Friday as well as sun-downers later the afternoon. Which turned into watching the rugby in the bar. We are a bit sport crazy. The Saturday was the wedding and as usual the day goes by fairly quickly, before you know it the bride is walking down the isle. And Saturday we took the long road back to Cape Town. All in all a good weekend to meet some awesome people.
